Portafilter spring for Pullman Filtration876 Baskets
The Pullman Filtration Baskets876 are rimless, meaning they lack the edge that is common with standard sieves, into which the portafilter spring 'lies' to hold the sieve firmly in the portafilter.
However, the edge has disadvantages that occur especially with higher grammages, such as those used in the specialty coffee sector: with a higher filling height, ie if the ground coffee goes over the edge, a channeling problem arises that is difficult to compensate for.
Rimless sieves do not have this problem, but they generally sit a little looser in the portafilter because they lack the rim to hold the spring.
Most of the time this doesn't matter - on the contrary: it's easier to get the sieve out of the portafilter for cleaning. However, if the sieve is so loose that it gets stuck in the brewing group after it has been covered, you should replace the spring.
The spring supplied here is larger in diameter and holds the screen tighter than most standard springs.
